Pasolini: Popular
A08
This subproject expands on the first phase’s focus on immanent definitions of the popular by examining the staging procedures, cultural techniques, and mediatization strategies that Pier Paolo Pasolini critically reflected upon, incorporated, and which transformed him into a consumable cultural object. Pasolini’s work and persona, widely disseminated across mass media, popular culture, and advertising, are analyzed as a reservoir of content repurposed for diverse public and commercial contexts.
The project investigates the conditions enabling Pasolini’s notable visibility across artistic practices – including installations, drawings, texts, and performances – to trace how his oeuvre and its reception interact with public space. By framing Pasolini as an actor within a dynamic network, the project unpacks how his aesthetic practices emerge from the interplay of multiple media, platforms, discursive roles, and self-presentation strategies.
